Stacking The Shelves #173

TBR

Lately, my TBR pile seems to be going head-to-head with my “read” pile. Maybe I should be starting this blog post by saying “My name is Natalie, and I’m a book addict!” but there’s nothing wrong with that! Nope! Other than my increasing lack of shelf space. But that’s why we bought a house, right? (Brian says no, but I think he’s wrong)

On to the books!

AnimalVegetableMiracleAnimal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year Of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver

Author Barbara Kingsolver and her family abandoned the industrial-food pipeline to live a rural life—vowing that, for one year, they’d only buy food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves, or learn to live without it. Part memoir, part journalistic investigation, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is an enthralling narrative that will open your eyes in a hundred new ways to an old truth: You are what you eat.

LightBetweenOceansThe Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

WolfGiftThe Wolf Gift by Anne Rice

When Reuben Golding, a young reporter on assignment, arrives at a secluded mansion on a bluff high above the Pacific, it’s at the behest of the home’s enigmatic female owner. She quickly seduces him, but their idyllic night is shattered by violence when the man is inexplicably attacked—bitten—by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness. It will set in motion a terrifying yet seductive transformation that will propel Reuben into a mysterious new world and raise profound questions. Why has he been given the wolf gift? What is its true nature–good or evil? And are there others out there like him?

All of these books are choices from my book club – moving house put me a little behind on the reading schedule! I’ve just finished The Light Between Oceans, and I’ll be reviewing that soon. And next I’m reading The Wolf Gift, because I love that genre!

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is a book I never would have looked at, but I’m interested to read the author’s story as I’ve been changing over to (almost) all organic food at home. Although I’m not growing it myself – I don’t have green fingers at all!

So that’s the round up of my TBR this week 🙂 I’ll be taking part in the Stacking The Shelves link-up, and also The Sunday Post. Check out some of the other posts to find great reads!

I purchased these books with my own money, and received no compensation for my honest review.

    1. I definitely enjoyed it – it really makes you think, and question what you’d do in the situations the different people are in.

    1. It’s definitely a good read! Thanks for stopping by my blog, and I hope you have a great week too 🙂

  1. Welcome to the Sunday Post! I like the looks of that food book… I try to eat organic as much as possible so it looks interesting.

    1. Thank you! I’ve started reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and the writing style is very engaging so far 🙂

  2. Welcome to the Sunday post, Natalie 🙂 That book by Barbara Kingsolver looks very good, I adored her Prodigal summer., so I hope you love that one and tell us about it. We eat organic at home, it’s good for the planet, but also wonderful for your health. Have a great weekend 😉

    1. Thank you! I hadn’t heard of her as an author before, so after this one I’ll check out Prodigal Summer too. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

  3. I like the look of The Light Between Oceans. I’ve actually not heard of it before so very keen to see what you think.

    Have a great week.

    1. Welcome! I’ve just gone through a complete change of direction for the blog, so I hope you stick around for more book-posts, reviews and other fun things I have planned 🙂 Anne Rice is definitely a good author, though I haven’t read any of her books for a long time. I’m looking forward to Wolf Gift!

  4. All three look nice, though I’ll admit to an immediate draw towards the Anne Rice book though another part of me is sighing loudly and saying “Not again“. Still, I might give it a closer look, though it’s been ages since I last read anything by her, so we’ll see! I hope you enjoy it though! 🙂

    1. Hehe I had pretty much the same reaction for the Anne Rice book! But like you, I haven’t read any of her books for a long time so I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like.

    1. I’ve just finished The Light Between Oceans – it really made me think, long after I’d finished reading. Happy reading to you too!

    1. I hope you enjoy it! It’s definitely a book which makes you think what you would do in the various situations.

  5. While I’ve heard off all 3 of these books I haven’t read them. And of course the primary reason for buying a house is more book space. Brian is definitely wrong there! The last time I moved I don’t think I got an y reading done for a month. Not fun! Have a great week and welcome to the Sunday Post!

    1. I bet you found the same as me – the lack of reading while moving, didn’t mean a lack of buying new books 😉

  6. I’ve been trying to bring in less books to the house but it doesn’t always go that well. And I definitely know what you mean with your TBR growing (faster than I read in my case). I haven’t read any of these but I do have the first two in my TBR list as well. I hope you enjoy them all!

  7. Brian most certainly is wrong. Everyone knows the bigger your home, the more books you have. Didn’t he read the Guide to How to Date a Book Nerd you you first got together? 😉 Hope you enjoy your books. I’ve never read an Anne Rice book, but this sounds interesting.

    1. Lol I haven’t heard of that book! It’s our anniversary soon, I’m going to have to get a copy and sneak it in with his gift! 😉

  8. I haven’t read any of these but I’ve heard quite a bit about The Light Between Oceans. Hope you enjoy all these! Also, as far as I know, the only point in buying a house is to turn it into a personal library. 😉

  9. Yep, tell Brian we all said he’s wrong, wrong, WRONG!! My hubs says the same thing but it’s in one ear, out the other. I just ignore it, mostly. And I’ve moved onto eBooks so there’s that 😉

Great books this week! Kingsolver is a classic author so you can’t go wrong there. I haven’t read anything by Rice yet but her Wolf series was one I was looking at. We’ll have to see what you think!!

BTW – I love the clean look of your blog!! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you! I recently changed the look of the blog, I’m really pleased it came out so nicely 🙂
